Taking Job Photos
Documenting Your Work with Photos
Photos prove quality and document progress. ANVL's mobile photo tools make capturing, organizing, and sharing photos easy from the job site.
Why Photographs Matter
Photos serve multiple purposes: document initial site condition, prove work quality, show progress to clients, create marketing material, and provide evidence if disputes arise. Good photos are your best defense if a client questions work quality.
Taking Before Photos
Before starting work, take clear photos of the space. Photograph from multiple angles to show the full scope. Make sure lighting is good—dark photos are hard to interpret. Include reference items for scale (your phone or a person in the shot). These before photos establish baseline conditions.
During-Work Photos
As work progresses, take progress photos showing different stages. Example: electrical rough-in, framing, drywall, finish work. These show the process and serve as backup if questions arise later. Photo dates and times provide timeline documentation.
After/Completion Photos
After finishing, take final photos in good lighting showing the completed work. Before/after side-by-side photos are powerful for marketing and client satisfaction. Show the work from the same angle as the before photo for comparison.
Using ANVL's Mobile Camera
In the ANVL app, open a job and tap "Add Photos." You can take a new photo (opens camera) or upload existing ones. Photos are automatically timestamped and geotagged (if location access is enabled). This creates an automatic audit trail.
Photo Organization
Organize photos by phase or section when you upload them. Label them: "Before - Kitchen," "Rough Electrical," "Final Finish." This organization helps you find photos later and makes client communication clearer.
Photo Quality Tips
- Photograph in daylight or good lighting when possible. Poor lighting ruins photos. - Hold the camera steady—blurry photos don't convey quality. - Include context: show the full room or space, not just a closeup. - Take photos straight-on when possible, not at weird angles. - Avoid shadows that obscure details. - Take multiples from slightly different angles to ensure quality.
Before/After Photo Pairs
Create dramatic before/after comparisons by taking photos from the same spot before and after work. These are incredibly effective for showing your impact. Label them clearly as before and after so the difference is obvious.
Sharing Photos with Clients
Share job photos with clients through ANVL. Open the job, click "Share Photos," and select photos to share. Clients receive a notification and can view them in a gallery. This keeps clients informed and demonstrates your progress.
Photo Privacy
Photos are private by default—only visible to you and the client unless you share them. You can include photos in your public portfolio (with client permission). Never post before/after photos publicly without client approval.
Using Photos in Marketing
With client permission, use before/after photos in your portfolio, website, and social media. These are incredibly valuable for attracting new clients. Always get written permission before using client photos publicly.
Photo Storage and Backup
Photos uploaded to ANVL are stored securely and backed up. You can also download photos to your phone or computer. Keep backups of important before/after photos for your records and marketing.
Photo Resolution
The ANVL app captures full-resolution photos from your phone's camera. ANVL stores full resolution and creates thumbnails for fast loading. You can always download the original high-resolution photo.
